I'm pretty sure that "Mr. Invincible #12 - First Aid Creme" was the first traffic safety spot that we produced for the calender year of 1998.
I think that we were looking to do a variation on distracted drivers, and as a result, this spot is almost a carbon copy of "Mr. Invincible #3- Dashboard Hibachi"; I guess that with two pretty tubby guys writing these things, it was perhaps inevitable that "eating while driving" was going to become a frequent theme. (It was around this time that we used to refer to ourselves as the "KOH Quarter Ton of Fun" whenever we'd do a live broadcast- between the two of us, 500 pounds of radio.)
There was at least one big change this time around: for the first time, we placed Mr. Invincible in a classic car -in this case, a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. (I guess I should admit that I've uncovered an error that we made when we produced this spot: I have since learned that there's no such thing as a 1937 Silver Ghost; that particular model was discontinued by the Rolls Royce company in 1926. Ooops.)
I remember worrying at the time that this spot was a bit overwritten; however, the response to it was big. I remember being surprised at how many people recognized the "Grey Poupon" music at the end; for those of you who must know, that particular piece of music is Luigi Boccherini's "Minuet", played by a string quartet. Who says slapstick and high culture can't coexist?
