We have been working on this 1948 9n tractor for about 2 months now inbetween jobs. It had been setting for 2 years before I started working on it. Hope to have it running in the next few days.

  • HI I would like to know ware did you get your valve seat at? Can some one e-mail me ware i can oder for my 2n ford brian.heppler@gmail.com

  • @tractor750 I went to a local machine shop that specializes in cylinder heads and the machinist matched the new seats to the old one I brought him. That would be the simplest thing for you to do.

  • The 8N vs. 9N & 2N confuses because, Ford often had left over parts from one model that was then used on the next model. The easiest way to tell the 8N from the 9N and 2N is the 8N has a large axle nut in the middle of the back wheels. The 8N also has two brake pedals under the drivers right foot, the other models have only one. The other brake pedal is next to the clutch pedal on the 9N & 2N. To tell by the engine, the 9N and 2N have front distributers. The 8N has a side mounted distributer.

  • @sergeantsailorman Yeah, this is definitely a 9n. It has the front distributor, and the brake pedal on each side. After we got it running we discovered it had no brakes. Pulled a wheel off and an axle bearing is leaking gear oil into the drum. We didnt fix it tho, we just take it easy :)

  • You say this tractor is a 1948 9N, but there is no such thing as a 1948 9N. If this tractor is a 1948 it would be an 8N. The Ford 9N was made from 1939-1942. The Ford 2N was made from 1942-1947. The Ford 8N was made from 1947-1952. I hope this info helps.

  • I'm just calling it what I was told it was. I dont know a whole lot about them. I'll see if I can get the serial number and research it. Thanks :)

  • Thank you pat1huey for reply to me. I will go to my local machine shop.

  • Great video!!..This will help me out alot on my 49 8n that i am going to rebuild...Thanks.

  • Yeah, it appears to be a Ford 9N (1939-1942) or an early Ford 2N before 1944judging by the older "I" beam style front radius rods. Ford switched to the newer oval style radius rods in 1944. That is assuming of course that the radius rods are original to this tractor, which they might not be. Check the serial number on the engine. Ford 9N and 2N tractor serial numbers start with 9N. I hope this info helps.

  • Just to clarify, the other guy in this vid isnt my uncle. He works for him too. We both get cussed at, LOL.
