Storyteller Samsunshine Levy at Liar's Night tells a story of the American Vine & Wine / The American Heritage Grape - New Mexico's long lost native son (varietal),
Santa Fe New Mexico November 27, 2007.
TRUE OR FALSE?? http://www.LiarsNight.com http://www.SantaFeShorts.com - From the 11-07 reprise of of Santa Fe's long-running lying contest, a tale by NET MAN, Sam Levy, http://www.TheNetCave.com http://www.AdobeChef.com (which may or may not be true), hosted as always by Jim Terr at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame BBQ's Mustang room.
"DINNER AT 6, LIES AT 8" "LIAR'S NIGHT" returns to Santa Fe, November 27.
Long-running favorite, Santa Fe storytelling contest Liar's Night will return for one night only, Tuesday, November 27 at 8 pm, on the approximate 10th anniversary of the Liar's Night Grand Championship Lie-Off which was held December 1, 1997.
Liar's Night was a monthly event at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame Mustang Room (the site of the upcoming event) for 2-1/2 years prior to the 1997 Lie-Off, and was revived only for one night, in 2001, as a campaign fundraising event.
Liar's Night consists of approximately eight local storytellers telling fantastical short tales, only ONE of which is true. The audience votes for the story they believe is true, prior to the true story being revealed. Host Jim Terr reports that the audience rarely selects the actual true story.
The winning storyteller, the one who received the most "true" votes, receives a princely cash prize in the neighborhood of perhaps $25, as well as the treasured Certificate of Sincerity.
The Cowgirl Hall of Fame Barbeque is offering a 10% discount on dinner prior to the event, for those planning to attend; dinner reservations should be made with the Cowgirl.
Storytellers in the upcoming event will be selected from among new prospects as well as the old "crew" of local storytellers, and may include a celebrity or two, according to Terr. The November 27 event will probably be a run-up to subsequent events in January and February, including another Championship Lie-Off.
Sample stories from previous events may be viewed at www.LiarsNight.com.
Veteran storyteller Garrick Beck, who has participated in several previous Liar's Nights including the 1997 Grand Championship Lie-Off, says that Liar's Night preserves the precious and long-evolved skill and human tradition of storytelling, which has now been usurped by movies and television and big budgets. He says that by injecting the element of friendly competition and mystery (who's telling the true story?), Liar's Night expands what might be a very small "evening around the campfire" event to a larger, more popular attraction.
