A look at an incredible trip you can no longer do-put your RV on a Mexican train and go over the Sierra Madre and see Copper Canyon. Enjoy this trip from 2001 to see what it was like to spend five days on a railroad train going through on "the most fantastic railroad ride in the world!" Truly, one of the most amazing vacations. We take you from loading the RV, up over 9,000 feet to the edge of Copper Canyon and then down through a maze of tunnels and bridges, finally to Los Mochis, where the rigs are taken off the flatcars. This trip was done by Fantasy Vacations in Las Vegas. The Mexican government was concerned about safety and had all of the RV-on- Trains stopped. Now, you have to go down by RV, but ride the passenger train instead.

  • Actually, you are only on the train for 5 days and have a chance to tank up water and drain grey and black water. They also let us drain a little gray water, I recall, if someone was really filling up, right on the rails. The rest of the 12 days you are in other towns along the way. Too bad you can't do it again, we think it was the greatest vacation we ever had. Thanks for watching it.

  • Thanks for sharing!!!

I'm planning to take that trip!

Thanks for your comment. You can no longer put your RV on a railroad car through Copper Canyon, but can still take the passenger train. I think it cost us about $ 1500 for a 12 day trip, five days of which are on the train itself. Enjoy!

  • You're right, it was an amazing trip. There were about five companies who were doing it. I think we paid about $ 1200 for a 12 day trip. They try and stretch it out and we went on various side trips. The actual railroad trip was 5 days over the Sierra Madres from near a town south of El Paso, to ending on the coast at Los Mochis. One of the passenger trains the year before had been stopped and robbed by banditos so we had guards with us on the train the whole trip. Can't do it anymore.

  • Awesome!

  • I have watched this twice! Thank You for sharing your trip with me. Out of curiosity in 12 days what did you do for water and electric?

  • Wow! I'm impressed. Beautiful!

  • Wow! I didn't know about the existence of this train. It looks so interesting. How much they charge you for a trip like this? And, how long does it last?
