I was born in Jamaica and came to the UK in 1964 at the age of four when my parents, who had emigrated two years prior sent for myself and five other siblings. I can honestly say that I have never attended a Jamaican Independence celebration for the simple reason that I never considered Jamaica, or any Caribbean, or African country to be independent. For me it is vary simple. How can you be independent it your prime Minister has to swear allegiance to a foreign monarch.

@mrland1 the empirical records in history r certainly not as young as i am but it will prove to u that Britain never had the interest of Jamaica in any high regards, if we were given independence from the get go we'd be fine, especially if we had independence around the same period the U.S got theirs, we would have established lucrative trading relationships with the U.S and grow with them, who knows, maybe if that was the case Jamaica would be the smallest world power...but Britain killed us!

@TheMohanroache You are too young to know a Jamaica in which murders were almost non-existent, streets were clean, the towns were orderly, and the Jamaican currency was on par with the pound, not 125 to 1! Go take a look at the Caymans next door, that will give you some idea of what Jamaica was. You may not even know that although you now require a visa to the Caymans and the Turks those islands were ruled from Jamaica!

@seymour31hotmail Bogle protested the harsh economic conditions of Jamaican peasants and the heavy handed Jamaica Charter which had a relationship with England similar to today's independent Jamaica. The then governor was angry that Jamaicans had sent a petition requesting the Queen's assistance. In 1866 the Jamaican legaislature renounced its powers, Jamaica became a Crown Colony and anew governor, public services as well as various agricultural programs were introduced.

@mrland1 you are soooo wrong and misinformed! i'm 22 years old and a final year student i have never known the monarchy to do anything for us since independence, every thing we have achieved so far is a result of our own independent efforts, dnt u dare credit the monarchy for our stability

It's about time!

Without the Monarchy Jamaica would have been a Haiti a long time ago! The Monarchy was inbed into the constitution to prevent wild politicians from doing whatever they felt and corrupt courts. That is why the Privy Council is the highest appellate court and far removed from judges with political connections in Jamaica. Before you start loving it so much examine what happend to the other Commonwealth countries which did what Mrs. Simpson is advocating. Start with Zimbabwe.
Jamaica must wear a Crown, a new King, Queen or President must inherit a clean State. The British Crown and Government owe Jamaica for Paul Bogle and George William Gordon, when Prince Harry visit Jamaica he must bring the Triple Crown of Emperor Theodore and 550 looted Ethiopian manuscripts, the Crown must assume the national debt as a ransom for the soul of Queen Elizabeth 2nd Jamaica must wear a Crown and cannot be another broken Republic. Leviticus 25 the Law of the Jubilees.

As a Canadian I will be disappointed if Canada tries to follow suit. I don't trust our politicians. At least the old grandmother in England has a track record of making reasonable decisions.
