CAMPAIGNERS DEMAND PUBLIC ACCESS TO FAMILY COURTS

Protesters gathered outside Derby's crown court today to demand family proceedings are open to the public.

Leading the group were mother Yvonne Coulter, 35, and her 18-year-old daughter Tammy.

Tammy was taken away from Miss Coulter by Social Services when she was eight-months-old following an accident in the family home which left Tammy with a bruised cheek.

Seventeen years later, the mother and daughter were reunited.

Tammy now lives with her mother, brother Cameron, 16, and sister, Kelis, 6, in Deepdale, Ironville.

Tammy and Miss Coulter were among members of Unity-Injustice, the support group Miss Coulter set up in 2004.

They were with another group Stop Injustice Now, collecting signatures outside the court ? where family cases are heard ? today.

Miss Coulter said: "If you are a rapist or a paedophile you can have your court hearing in the open with friends, family and the media watching.

"Vulnerable parents don?t have that right. They are told not to talk about their case and if something is said in court that isn't true, they have no means of putting their point across."

The protest is part of a three-day tour of three cities, Leeds, Liverpool and Derby.

Stop Injustice Now campaigner Ian Walton, said: "We have 11,000 signatures so far and have had good support in all three cities."

Derbyshire County Council has always stood by its decision to take Tammy into care and has promised to give Tammy all the information she required.

The teenager says, however, that she is still waiting to receive papers relating to her case.

Meanwhile, concern is growing nationally about miscarriages of justice.

Family law solicitor Sarah Harman said: "Secrecy breeds bad practice. It feeds parents' sense of injustice when they have their children removed because they?re not allowed to talk about it."

Protesters will be at the court until 4pm today collecting signatures.

  • I,m about to give up my battle against a sociopathic mother and a corrupt Derby family court who are only prepared to listen to the false, unfounded and malicious allegations against me,depriving me of ever seeing,Aneurin,my son,my reason to live, the little boy i cared for and loved for his first 5yrs,until his mother again committed adultery and perjury while abducting him.It is the sickest prejudice and child abuse i have dreamed of.

  • @4653219 Please dont give up. There are a few Fathers groups out there that may be able to help you. I may be able to offer some advice. Please pm me with a contact No.

  • If criminal courts were run like family courts, there would be a Birmingham Six every day of the week.Cafcass and family court judges are no better than the child abusing mothers who use children as weapons.I hope they all remember that one day we all meet the real judge. What filthy lies and prejudice will they fabricate then? They are morally and proffessionally bankrupt.
