Here it is at last...The near impossible... Read if you want to find out about the journey...(Sorry for no audio, just listen to some mp3's for the next 90 minutes :P)

I DID IT, I DEFEATED DARK ANIMA!!!

Wow, what an incredible feeling...I can't quite believe it...The video is saving at the moment (the 2nd half took over an hour, a total fight time of something like an hour and 40 minutes!), its extremely slow so I thought I would share the triumph on here 1st!

I guess I'll talk about the journey (this will be quite long)..(I'll put the battle up on youtube in a few days but theres a lot of annotating and stuff to do, I want to explain things rather than just put it up)...

Background: I began NSGNZDA in summer 07, bored 15 year old who decided to take up a challenge in his favourite game, the idea of being the 1st to defeat Dark Anima was quite exciting...I spent the 1st year just preparing my own Anima and going through the game (since I hadn't done NSG before), levelling at Remium and the Monster Arena and getting to the stage where I could defeat Valefor and the monster arena creations...Decided to upload my 1st youtube vids at the time...Then by 09 I had made it to the stage where I could defeat the Dark Aeons with Anima, so I set about doing that, beat all the Aeons up to the Magus sisters by around 340 hours of playing time...Once that was done I started training the Magus Sisters, which i did for a few months then got bored...

Uni began and I took a long break from training, focused on 1000s of wasted Shinryu attempts instead, plus I had x8m's NSGNZDA-ready file with which to try the fight out anyway...Then in the summer of 2010 with the long summer holiday I refocused my attention on training and basically got the Magus Sisters up to speed except for agility/luck/mp...The training was just taking stupidly long but I kept at it, increasing Hp of shield aeons slowly...After a while I simply gave up training, it just seemed impossible, I didn't have a turbo controller like Darkkefka for Hp levelling and such so I called it a day at the end of summer 2010...By this time I had come up with some modifications to the existing strategy, such as giving Sandy and Mindy 99999 Hp to benefit from full life, ( Keeping Cindy's hp low to benefit from Pray)...Also it was considered that if DA used 2x Mega Graviton after an oblivion that everyone would die...This problem was alleviated by having one person with auto potion instead of auto regen (eventually this was refined further so that Yuna had Auto Potion AND Auto Regen to help her survive any number of Mega Gravs, this was suggested by someone on youtube)...

With these new ideas I decided to head back to my own file and I came across FFXED. I decided that I would just edit the Aeons the rest of the way, the clock stops at 999:59 anyway and to be honest my 1000s of hours of effort could be done in a few clicks, so I went ahead with that...Armed with my edited save I then redoubled my efforts in late 2010 with little success...Then came another breakthrough with the help of ChaosN who suggested using Magic + 30 on Rikku's weapon to increase the amount Rikku recovers from auto-life..This meant that she too could survive mega gravitons after oblivion, saving on phoenix downs...

I got quite hooked into my NSGRO and NSGAO challenges from there onwards and lost interest again in NSGNZDA for a while...No matter what you do whether or not you win is completley up to Dark Anima's moves...I was having no luck...So then after my Easter break in April I returned to university, leaving my PS3 at home so that it wouldnt be a distraction from summer exams...All I had to play was my FFX on my laptop...I didn't touch it for a few weeks then tonight I thought I would give studying a break and have some more attempts...And finally things came through...I won't talk about the fight itself, I'll let you guys watch the video...But it will suffice to say that I got off to an incredible start, then had a scary period where I managed to summon the sisters once in 30 mins and lost nearly 50 phoenix downs, but it came together in the end and I made it with 17 PD's to spare and with the sisters still intact...Just amazing, probably my greatest personal achievement, and probably the only thing that would have made me write such a long post ..Thanks to anyone who has ever helped me on this challenge, namely x8m for his original save and Blitz for his advice on youtube...Sorry if i've missed anyone out I am still quite euphoric :D

  • Concerning the audio problem: What emulator were you using?

  • @NEroNeRoNerON I use PCSX2, the emulator works fine, it was the recording of the audio that was the problem... Couldn't get the software to record the audio for some reason, since I didn't think I would win and I was doing uni exams I didn't spend too much time trying to figure it out :) Soon after this vid was recorded I came back home from uni and brought an Ezcap to replace my old device which was incompatible with my new laptop, so I didn't have to bother with Emulator recording again :)

  • @dansg08 I was wondering because I used to have the same problem with that emulator.

  • @NEroNeRoNerON Hmm... Are you not getting sound out of the emulator or is the sound not being recorded? If you PM me I can try to help you if you haven't figured it out :)

  • Hyprophant wrote on GameFAQS: "Maybe there will be another legendary player stand up someday and finish this

quest for us...who knows? I really hope my prophecy will come true, but even if

not, I will still be happy and proud of everyone who has participated this

project. It is indeed, the highest achievement in RPG history."

You are that legendary player :) You have all my estimate, you will be remembered for generations, congratulations! :D * Victory Fanfare*

  • @xChaosVincent92x Thanks for the nice words :) I read the same FAQ before starting and thought to myself "I want to be that player one day :D" , 4 years later I finally got there :)

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 Nobody cares about the grinding part. *That* is what everyone could do, it only takes time. The fight is the interesting part, and how proper preparation makes such a daunting task possible. Any sane person would edit the stats if it saves a thousand hours of unavoidable grind. Think about the things you could do instead in that time.

  • @Arcley Oh, I totally disagree. The fight itself is luck-based, despite the choice of the weapons, etc ; the hard part is taking the time to boost all your aeons. Still, props to the guy, really, but this challenge really seems stupid to me : just luck, it's like shinryu to a lesser extend. If it's not luck you should be able to do this 100 times in a row.

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 ok bro go ahead and waste maybe 4000h of your life on the same game just so you get bragging rights from it.and the worst part of it is,it wont take you any more skill then what was done on this vid, just more time wasted.

  • thumbs up if u saw it all

  • Are u darkkefka?

  • I gave up on this fight! It's fucking HARD AS SHIT!!

  • i take my hat off for you :) great job man!! But one question; Was it the first time you used zanmato? Because when you use it for the first time, theres ALWAYS an extra long scene. I didnt see it here :/ In my saved game, ive NEVER used zanmato, the proof i have, is the scene im talking about. Im confused..

  • @Arcley

You are SO right, man! Actually, You read my thinking, because I was going to answer the very same!
