This is my home made dolly track assembly.
As you can see it's really easy to build and can be laid out within 2 minutes.
There's a list of materials used at the end of the video.
You can see not all the wheels actually touch the track in this video but that's due to the fact that I didn't pay much attention to how the track was laid out. You need to make sure it all lies perfectly level if you want perfection. But the wheel issue is not important coz the dolly will automatically stay on the track even if the spacing between the 2 pipes isn't spot on and it's not leveled out.

Btw, the system is tough enough to support the weight of a grown man. I can easily ride it without damaging it and I weigh 73 kilo's. It would actually be a good idea to weigh the dolly down a bit by putting some stones on it. That makes it even more stable and prevents sudden jurky movement.

The camera mounted on the tripod is my Nikon D5000 with battery grip attached and a 16-85mm VR-II Nikkor lens.

If you have any more questions about it, feel free to put them in the comments below. Comments will be appreceated anyway :)

  • @AqualohA No problem. No offence taken and it's a free wold :)

  • That's creative! Will come in handy I'm sure.

  • @Maccadole Yes, I'm going to use it for a short film I'm making for a childrens holiday charity. I start shooting on may 4th and I need to get 85 shots in 3 days. Almost impossible :( But I'm sure I'll pull it off somehow. But this dolly will come in handy.

  • @ASAngelo Thank you my friend! :)

  • Very cool. Inexpensive and utilitarian. And the footage takes on a new magic!

    Well done Eddy!

  • @fehquig Thanks! Yes, the elastic cords are real handy. I can lift the whole dolly up by the tripod, that's how strong they pull.
