I don't think cats stay on their own for 18 hours a day. At least not cats that live in your house. If I lay down on the sofa for more than 5 minutes my cat will jump up next to me and lay down for a nap. Sometimes I have to keep pushing him off me if I'm eating a tuna fish sandwich.
