Ernesto Lecuona's Malaguena Piano solo

I started taking piano lessons when I was 7. When I was 11, my piano teacher played this song for me and asked me if I wanted to learn it to play at our annual piano recital. She warned me it would take a long time to learn, but when I heard it I just had to learn it...so she taught me line by line. I would not move on until I had the line memorized. I was able to play it perfectly from memory by the time our recital came around. At our previous piano recitals in the past, I had enjoyed the grand piano so much, that I didn't get nervous and played without making mistakes...this time was different. I was nervous and my mind went blank in the middle of this song. I managed to stumble around and get through it, very disappointed in myself...so was my teacher. My sister asked me to do this one. I told her I couldn't play it anymore...but she insisted, telling me that it was forever burned into my brain. It is...it's just my fingers don't want to keep up anymore...oh well. What an 11 yr old can do a ... hmmm seem to have forgotten that number...:-) Anyway, here it is for my sister...mistakes and all

I'm so glad you enjoyed it:-) I once saw Roy Clark on TV play it and love it on the guitar too. I'm not good enough on guitar to play it...

This is the original sheetmusic from the Andalucia suite. I tried to put a link but for some reason it wouldn't work. If you do a search for "Malaguena Andalucia sheetmusic" you can view it on sites like Sheetmusic plus or Amazon...I play it a little differently than written

Thanks so much for your kind comment.My mistakes seem to scream out at me though:-)

Whenever I have problems with a song, on piano or guitar, I tend to "kinda" play it,or change it to a way I can play it.With this song if you listen close to one of the runs on the left hand, the last top note I strike is wrong. Also on the very high part where both hands are playing, I got off, but have learned to just keep playing so it's not as obvious when I do screw up I guess.Lots of almost hit right:)

@de2010me May be in 3:19 there's a little mistake, but I prefer to listen a music for what she inspires me. When you play and make a mistake, you think that everybody can hear it, but for people, it's often inaudible.

I don't want to analyze your music ; I maintain : what you played here is beautiful :-)

I have decided to learn how to play piano at age 72. I have decided that this song which I have loved since I first heard it, will be my goal. I have played it on guitar for over 40 years but nothing compares with a grand piano for beauty of sound. What key are you playing on this presentation if I might ask. Thank you to your sister because we can now hear you playing this song. It seems to be difficult, for me anyway. I listened it three times, looking for the mistakes you were talking about, and didn't find anything. I don't know the original version, so what you call mistake can be understood as a different way of playing it, or it's very discreet ? Always a pleasure to hear you with piano or guitar. Good job !! :-)
