The m1330 is an awesome laptop, you'll got a ton of looks if you take it to a public place. I've learned after researching and using other slot-loading drives that the sound is normal for slot-loading drive. Otherwise the laptop is perfect.
wtf.... just got a brand new XPS 14z... has the same fucking loud dvd drive and sometimes it says region error with region 1 dvd...ive always had dell, and decided to stick with dell against the better thoughts of many people... this will be my last dell.
So....I called the Dell Support again, and I experience the WORST service ever! They scheduled to call me back to fix my troubleshoot, but they never did. I waited all day too....and even now, I get no call back.....
What should I do???? I'm going to get it replace again soon....but will this problem occur again?
OMG! I also owned a Dell XPS M1330 and is currently having issue with the CD/DVD drive problem. At first, none of my DVD movies or CD audio was reading when I inserted into the slot-drive, so I called Dell Technical Support to get it fix and replace. A couple days later, I got the part replaced. The laptop was able to read my DVD and CD. But now, the drive is even worst! It's super loud and I feel that if I continue to insert any DVD or CD once again, they will get destroy. This is so sad.
I hate this m1330 optical drive. It is noisy and doesn't work half the time. I bought a used on off eBay and that one is noisier and still doesn't work right. I hope Dell makes improvments on this drive. Other than that I am happy with my m1330
@14wasp LCD is the display technology. LED is a backlight. LCD's usually use a thin lightbulb type thing for lighting the LCD. LED's are just like that, except they don't use as much electricity, don't create much heat, they aren't bulbs, they are a lot thinner, and are a lot brighter.
@rynwaves lol i have a 14z dont u have a problem that sometimes the cd/dvd reader makes sounds, like if u pushed the expulsion button?

Dell should look into the correct slot loading cd drive. My macbook doesn't even sound close to that.
