  • Going "over the break" is one of the trickiest parts of playing the clarinet. Unfortunately there is no easy fix! A big misconception is that pushing the register key (left thumb) is what causes the problem. A bigger problem however is moving your left pointer finger from the A key to the first key hole smoothly. If you can practice going from 2nd space A to 1st line E smoothly, it can help solve your problems with register leaps. Also, push your air forward and PRACTICE PRACTICE! - Brandie
