The problem with asking our soldiers to exhaust themselves in Afghanistan is that it's an open invitation to any of our enemies to invade their neighbor safe in the knowledge that we wouldn't have the resources to do anything about it.

In other words, if you use up your military, you don't have it anymore available to defend the country or, more realistically, to defend our national interests.
