Can Coal Be Clean? A Debate Between Michael Brune of Rainforest Action Network and Joe Lucas of American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity

While John McCain and Barack Obama have painted clean coal as a panacea that will help solve the nation’s energy problem, many environmental and scientific groups have questioned whether the burning of coal can ever be clean. We host a debate between Rainforest Action Network director Michael Brune, author of the new book Coming Clean: Breaking America’s Addiction to Oil and Coal, and Joe Lucas of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity.

That's amazing considering that wind and solar power only account for 3% to 4% of the United States power source.

  • Mature ecosystems don't evolve in 2000 years. We'll take out so many species of animals and plants on our way out, that we will create fundamental changes to the path of evolution.

In 2000 years, the Earth will still be running weather cycles driven by our actions. It will take some time for the Earth to reabsorb the CO2 that that had taken hundreds of millions of years to sequester.

  • It is proven that in 200 years after we are gone, most signs of our existance will be gone and in 2000 years the effects from human development will be gone

  • This chase for infinite growth to infinite consumption is impossible to maintain.

We will never abandond our goal to grow to infinite mass. so we will always chase after an impossible solution.

Eating faster is our solution to hunger.

  • Maybe millions of years, not 2000.

    But in spirit, you're correct.

If global wamring causes our extinction, the Earth will recover.

  • hypothetically if we made it our mission to burn all the coal we could and destroy every plant we saw and killed every other living thing... this would be a devistating blow to Earth ... It would recover but not in 2000 years; more like 2 million years... which is still only like a hiccup or maybe a head cold

  • Global warming is a farce, it is proven that in 2000 years after humans leave this world our presents would not be recognizable. This is not even a blink of the eye in the earths existance!

  • Clean coal sounds like a spin. The People who have to mine coal are going to die, just like the miners of the past.

Why don't they step off their safe little pedestals and find alternative fuels. People all across America are living off the grid from solar panels, and energy suppliers have to pay them for excess.

  • just what I was looking for, go to naders page, and watch gonzalez's new vid, it's awesome, he tears palin and biden a new one.
