C. Hitchens is definitely correct on the God issue, but he is so incredibly charismatic and powerful on a platform that even when his arguments are weak he can present them with such clarity and elegance that they seem strong. Unbelievably impressive man.
Wow, I want to disagree with Peter on almost every point. You don't need religion to be moral, you need to be have good parents and teachers. You can't blame bad parenting on atheism because as much if not more bad parenting goes on in theistic homes. You certainly can't discuss worshiping pagan god's as an argument against atheism, Atheists don't believe in Astaroth either! Plus, we can look back on things written in the Bible and judge them as immoral, but by what standards? Objectivity.
i agree with the captian below me but peter was pretty persuasive there, i think he did a good job to cmobact christopher, for a minute i thought christopher had won :D
That "some people do bad things therefore they are atheists therefore atheists do bad things" point is probably the most spectacularly stupid thing I've ever heard.
Christopher is the more seasoned debater....it was pretty obvious who was going to win, though Peter is no dullard. What I find more interesting is the obvious brotherly hatred between the two Christopher is ....on the warpath, moreso than he usually is. It's clear they don't like each other to slightest degree.
Peter seems like a very charming person but he has fallen into the trap of old stale thinking its proven already that old moral projetcs has failed and we need new ways to challenge ourselves today with the continue of thought.
