DK Jr. probably makes the jump over the gap which normally requires a feather or mushroom by getting a boost from a New Boost Technique, or NBT-look that up on the net; I think there's a NBT tutorial on Youtube. Although I think if you use the characters with high max-speed it's possible to just hop that jump without using such an unorthodox technique, if you use excellent timing when you press L/R, and are going as fast as you can without a boost.
