KPFA staff (both paid and unpaid) and listeners turned out in force November 4 for a lively noontime picket. The rally came as KPFA's parent network Pacifica appears to be moving ahead with layoffs of more than a quarter of the station's union staff. The Morning Show, Against the Grain, Hard Knock Radio and the Evening News seem slated for severe program changes and/or decimating cuts, along with other vital positions at KPFA.
KPFA's unionized workers pushed Pacifica's national board to "chop from the top"----proposing a sustainable budget that chops wasteful bureaucracy before scaling back programs and laying off staff members. But the board rejected the union's common-sense proposals, and Pacifica National Director Arlene Engelhardt----seen in this video----even refused to disclose her own salary when asked about it at Thursday's rally

Has Pacifica ever considered re-negotiating their contract with Democracy Now? Frankly, it bothers me that nobody will answer my questions about where my pledge money goes to.
Is Democracy Now a CWA shop or AFTRA?
Is any of my pledge going to pay for their staff salaries or health care?
If the contract's never been re-negotiated, why not? All contracts can be re-negotiated.
If Pacifica's not going to answer valid listener questions, then what do you expect with no new pledges?

All the comments so far have been right on. Plus she's also has been known to eat babies. No big surprise there. Athough it looks like she's running away to avoid having to answer the question about her absoutely massive two-figure salary, which would be bad enough, but in fact it's because she doesn't want to be caught on camera regurgitating poorly digested baby.

Did you hear the one about the CEO, the Tea Party member and the union worker? They're sitting around a table and on the table is a plate with a dozen cookies. The CEO takes eleven, and then turns to the Tea Party guy and says, "Watch out for that union worker, he wants some of your cookie!"

How in the world did she get to head Pacifica?

She comes off as unlikeable. Her top-down management is deplorable. Clearly she is the one who should be fired.

I see certain resemblance with Sharron Angle when she runs away and refuses to face the truth. Angle = Engelhardt?
I see the angle but not the heart. This is a repeat of what happened i the 90's. I predict she will not last
