Autism - 3 Year Old Singing Twinkle Twinkle

My son, Jake, was diagnosed with Autism in April 2009. He is 3 1/2 years old and has always had words but they were all labels and never put more than two words together at a time. We incorporated ABA Therapy for as long as we could afford to provide it along with a GF/CF Diet, fish oil and a daily vitamin. One night while I was singing to him, he starting singing it back to me! I was dumbfounded. He still has a 'lazy mouth', but we're incorporating speech therapy for articulation. Progress and Hope :)

Hi katieejmom...My son Carson is doing well ...Thank you for asking! We were told in September that he may never say any more than 30-40 words and now he is saying about 250! I still get chills watching this video of your son because it is EXACTLY my sons behavior..The way he says it the breathing in between..The way he says I love you..It is just striking. I will try to post a video soon..So you can see the similarities!

@46467878 - The spectrum is quite vast. He will tell us his name and age, but if we were to ask him what he did at school that day - or to tell us a story - we may as well be speaking Greek to him. I'm focused on his positive progression. Thank you very much for the compliment - I will do my best to make sure he does, in fact, live a full and happy life!

This is my son TOTALLY!!! I feel like I just watched a video of my son!! His name is Carson ..just turned 3 and his favorite song is twinkle twinkle...He was diagnosed with pdd/nos in the fall of 2010.

@childofchrist3 - how is Carson doing today? Is he making positive strides? I was actually thinking yesterday how I need to learn the songs that he sings in Pre-K so I can reinforce them at home. Granted, the child tells me to "Stop, Mom!" when I try to sing along (I didn't think I was THAT bad ;) ) Hope life finds you well.

My little girl turned 3 March 27th she seems perfectly normal but it's hard to understand her sometimes and she sings that just the same way. What made you check to see if your son had Autism?

My son Wyatt, who was diagnosed with PDD-NOS when he was 2 1/2 years old, loves to sing Twinke, Twinkle too! He is 3 1/2 now and doing wonderfully....he is also at the higher end of the spectrum. Its crazy how wide the spectrum can be, most people can't even tell he has some sensory issues at all :-) Glad to know your son is doing so well.
