Our swim team's Stroke & Turn Clinic spent some time trying to duplicate this turn looking at it full speed. It wasn't until I slowed it down that the simplicity of it hits. It's sort of a crossover turn, except the turn is more on the side. It gave me a chuckle to see the force with which his hand touched the wall. Check it out.
I know it's stating the obvious, but Lochte (and Phelps, of course) must practice their turns a lot more than most.
