thanks for the favorable comments so far. Most people my age have no idea about this group, and care even less about this type of sound. but i love this sorta stuff. I have a very eclectic taste to say the least.

What a coincidence! I once owned a '71 Challenger AND got hooked on Jan and Dean when I bought this album in 1963. Got to meet Dean Torrence at a concert in Pittsburgh in 2000. A really nice guy.

well an impala is not my thing, I like muscle cars and sporters, in general my favorite car is the 69 shelby gt 500 they made about 500 as a hemi 429, I read in a mustang magazine once. The impalas are huge boat cars arn't they I had a friend that had a huge yellow impala from the 60s I think it might have been a 68 or something it was a convertable that is all I remember but not what year it was, her dad was a lawer though and they had tons of money, and she was a nice girl.

Jan Berry went through a tough life later on and came out on top again. Check out the song, Dead Man's Curve. This surf/drag racing music seems to me to be the 1st of its kind in terms supporting 2 sports--surfing and auto-racing/fine car watching. In fact, these dudes in the late 50's with their 57 Chevy's & in the early 60's with their stingray placed money gambling bets & bets on car titles which laid the framework for street racing like The Fast & the Furious & this type of SoCal lifestyle

One of the greatest top 40 singles of all time. This was America at its hottest. Jan & Dean capture the American spirit well. This is rock'n'roll maturing into a sophitiscated cultural commentary while remaining innocent and continuing to have the fun of the 50s into the 60s.

Initially I thought that the Beach Boys came up withy the beach music sound.  But later I found out that Jan & Dean started it first, and the music & style was Jan's idea. Jan shared his music with Brain Wilson and then the Beach Boys got started and became even more popular.

"Drag City" was hardly Jan & Dean album filler. (Which is no put down of their almost always superb album tracks.) "Drag City" hit #10 in early 1964 as one of the best written, arranged and performed hot rod/drag racing hits of all time.

A very typical Jan & Dean album filler. But Jan's writing ability and his production skills were abundant. I think Brian Wilson helped the boys out on some of the very high falsetto parts. Brian & J & D were very close buddies.
