I do believe in an initial level that atheism and belief in a God does take amounts of faith. I would like to say that the premise that God is initially complex or simple is simply a matter of philosophical and speculative theology. But, there have been plenty of arguments and theological discussions that say God is the ultimate simplicity and has been written about for awhile. the idea of God going against the pattern of universe is only relevant to certain brands of theological thought.
Beatnik, atheists admit that they cannot "prove" the "non-existence" of "God" any more than a theist can prove the existence of "God." It's no more a leap of faith to assume that matter simply came into existence than it is to assume that a divine being simply came into existence. Also, science demonstrates that things go from simple to complex. A divine being begins by being complex, so, they say, it goes against the pattern of the universe.
Atheism DOES exist and I never said that it didn't. However, I still assert that atheism violates its own core tenets, which of course doesn't matter much to atheists. Its just as impossible to rationally know that god does not exist as it is to know that god does exist. The problem arises when atheists claim to have scientific and biological support for their faith...when it is just that...faith.
Well, now you're simply arguing whether or not it's intellectually consistent to be atheist. That's fine, but it doesn't prove your initial assertion that it doesn't exist and that all atheists are actually agnostic. To the contrary, atheists do exist, as do agnostics. An atheist rejects the notion that there is a "divine being." An agnostic says no one can know for sure. Whether or not you think atheism is a "faith" is really not relevant to them.
Well, the abstract concepts of "Truth" or "Justice" without belief in a Supreme Being is intellectually masturbatory. I'm not even very religious, but only playing devil's advocate. What I said was that Atheists, who for all intents and purposes reject blind faith, violate their own credo by holding positions that require faith of an equal (but opposite) force. Atheism is FAITH that there is no god, a fallacy, Q.E.D.
Not at all. Atheism simply means that a person does not believe that there is an Eternal Creature or Creator. I know many people who reject the notion that such a "person" exists. That does not mean, though, that they don't have "faith." In your post, you mix the two concepts. They might have faith in Truth, for instance, but that's not a "Being."
The existence of God is found just by looking around.
