Innovate or Die - Aquaduct: Mobile Filtration Vehicle

The Aquaduct is pedal powered vehicle that transports, filters, and stores water for the developing world. A peristaltic pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from a large tank, through a filter, to a smaller clean tank. The clean tank is removable and closed for contamination-free home storage and use. A clutch engages and disengages the drive belt from the pedal crank, enabling the rider to filter the water while traveling or while stationary.

I think it would be great to have a platform over the water tank (or redesign the tank) so people can transport small amount of produce and other stuff to market and back. That would also allow them to share a ride.

Anyone in the third world who could afford to buy such a thing already has indoor plumbing and a government job. What the rest need is a well and a filter.

I agree, where is this product now? We see so many times, well meaning people with no experience of the practicalities of treating and delivering water coming up with the next great idea which will solve the World's water problems. However, I have seldom seen any which have a practical and affordable application. Consequently they never achieve what their fancy videos and promotions promise.

This is a great idea but I hope you keep in mind that anyone you give this too, will probably be wanting to use the bicycle as transportation as well. I hope the company reinforces and maybe adds a small carrier area and maybe a two person seat to it. If I was in a country that didn't have good water, I might not have good transportation either. everyone needs to go to the store for something even if it's only medicine.
