Well, they say if you can't make fun of yourself... hahah.

I've decided to embarrass myself and a few old classmates by posting a few videos of our old high school a cappella group "The Upperclass Men." Our group was comprised of 3 Seniors and 2 Juniors, all "upper classmen," thus the name of our group. I can still remember sitting at a table in the library with two other friends Phil & Squeege early our Sr. year trying to think of cool names for our group. I still have the piece of notebook paper we wrote our ideas on. It reads:

1) Under The Underwear (I STILL love that name, but our choir director would have NONE of it...her son Justin was one of the Jrs. in the group)

2) Upperclass Men (what we decided on)

3) Five Past Midnight

4) The Terrorists (A terrible idea, but of course 1991 was before any of the awful events of recent times)

5) Skirtless Panty Raiders (Was a big fan of this one too)

6) I'm Hearda Teya (An inside joke)

7) Titless Wonders (Good lord...)

8) Fivetet

Well anyway, the group was as follows:

Tenor I - C.G. "Squeege" George
Tenor II - Phil Merz
Baritone I - Justin Carlson
Baritone II - Karl Bhatnagar
Bass - Andrew Bishop (Yours Truly)

We were wildly popular with just about everybody. I still maintain we could've scored a lot more with the chicks if we would've had half a brain in our heads. Of course, the gawd-awful mullet I was sporting probably didn't help things...

Even our teachers dug us. Mr. D, our Sr. Math instructor, would always have us get up and sing if he finished his lecture early. He'd say, "Andy, go over to Mrs. Burch's class and see if you can borrow Phil to come over and sing." (The rest of us were in Mr. D's class) None of us were real serious vocalists, just good musicians. I'm the only one of the 5 of us who picked music for a profession. Please see:

This particular video is from the CKL League Choir Festival. (Central KS League -- which is no longer.) This is a somewhat watered down arrangement of "Happy Together" by the great a cappella group The Nylons.

1992.... wow. A LONG time ago. We were kids back then, and never took ourselved too seriously...but we still tried real hard and had a great time. Such fun memories!

  • Hahah.. "odd" is right.

Well, as the info states, we did it for fun, and if it wasn't for our hideous sweaters and gawd-awful hair, maybe we could've been a bigger hit with the ladies. HAHA

Yes, the boobs in the background are priceless. I don't think they'd ever heard an a cappella guys group before. lol

  • Oddly, this is the best a cappela version of this song on YouTube. Well done! Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the faces of the people in the background. :)
