Maria Barrientos sings "Mad Scene" from "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Donizetti. I have already uploaded same recording electrically reproduced. This is a playback on acoustic Phonograph, Victrola Credenza. Although entire sound is metallic and noisy, her voice sounds "even" across tessitura...
Maria Barrientos was and is (in remember) a top Primadonna . Sad, that in her time most great Primadonnas sung too mutch coloraturs to show their grandios technic. It was modern. So, the wonderfull melodies are hidden by this well, but also bad, coloraturs. Past the second worled war no sutch a real Primadonna, like M.Barrientos, was in action !

Those who claim to be professional Coloraturas today should listen and learn. There is spontaneity, just one of the keys to the Golden Period of Singing, ease of production, purity of tone, brilliance, and more.

What a pity the producers did not plan a two-sided version of this. Her phrasing is so lovely, the timbre of her voice so expressive. At the end she cleverly vocalises up to the high E flat, instead of producing the somewhat abrupt high scream most sopranos prefer. Fine disk. Thanks, VC.
