@Jon3800 hm...title says lawnboy breaks down...think about it lol...there is no way a tecumseh motor is as good as a honda...that's why they went out of business lol...not saying lawnboys are terrible and no good at all but there are better mowers out there
I see what you mean. The reason why it broke down because of the carb gumming up. Its a very common issue on tecumseh motors but it's really a simple fix. Cleaned the bowl and started in 1-2 pulls. I've haven't with Kohler or Honda (they are more than $800 here in Canada for a true Honda mower), but I will say that tecumseh's were better than Briggs+ Stratton
Then how come Honda had very few snowblower engines? The lawnboys I use are 2-cycle engines which were FAR superior engines before TORO's takeover with this tecumseh. Yes it did break down..just 5 minutes later to remove and clean the carb, still runs and starts in 1-2 pulls to this day.
Today there's REALLY no better lawnmower.. decks are steel and bland in design. At least with lawnboy as airplanerevolver stated, they had unusual deck designs that helped trim closer
@kilgoja lawn boys have as good of power as a four stroke plus they are very unusual compared to mowers today. I got a lawn boy from my neighbor for free. It did not run for 6-8 years I put some starting fluid in and gas it started right up.
The old Ryobi's are tempermental, but beasts when they run.

@kilgoja
I've worked with lawnboys for over 20 years, they are the best. I have a 1979 that starts as fast as a honda
