This is wrong! Not only are QLD Gropers a protected species but any cod this size is a no take fish.
This QLD Groper (Epinephelus lanceolatus) was observed in a spawning aggregation at the entrance to the Gold Coast Seaway in the lower end of the Moreton Bay Marine Park

  • @funkngroovy you mean wiped out by recreational line fisherman.

  • question: Are grouper actually a very good eating fish, or just "average" ...

  • Furthermore, I have seen dozens of photos of line-fishermen with QLD grouper gilled and gutted. Spearos are definitely not the only ones doing it. It's disgusting.

  • pathetic, no wonder our sport gets badmouthed.

  • anyone seen it since? I really think the North Wall needs to be declared off limits to Spearing. Too many people enjoy the life in the seaway for it to be wiped out from spearos.

  • Kaptain Kev - I agree this film made me well up - but I work in a spearfishing shop and most people realise that it's the minority that are idiots. There are things underway to try and catch the fish and take the spear out :)

  • I luv spearfishing , makes me sick looking at this clip. I'd like to meet the dickhead that shot this fish in a dark ally and say hello , PLEASE DON"T THINK SPEARO'S SHOOT FISH LIKE THIS , 99.9 don't but there is that .1% that don't have a brain. :(
