NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 11 -- The angiotensin-receptor blocker irbesartan (Avapro) holds no benefit for heart failure patients with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction, researchers found.

The drug did not reduce risk of death or cardiovascular-related hospitalization or any secondary clinical outcome, including disease-specific quality of life, Barry M. Massie, M.D., of the University of California San Francisco, and colleagues reported here at the American Heart Association meeting and simultaneously online in the New England Journal of Medicine.
