my 2nd kyu aikido grading (20 September 2009) :: done under a different umbrella organisation this time (Aikido Kenkyukai International - AKI). Thus, there were different protocols as compared to my previous gradings; i.e. no hakama for kyu levels, random multiple ukes, faster/more dynamic attacks, longer grading duration and a much more tired me ;)

p.s. the grading video has been effectively cut by half so it fits into youtube parameters. i will upload the full grading in two separate parts in due time. as usual, comments and feedback are always welcome. thanks for watching.

  • Congratulations! Beautifully done, as always.

I just took my 6th kyu exam (we start as ungraded, and our first test is 6th) on 9/23. (The video is on my channel.) Your videos have been an inspiration, starting right from Noob and 5th kyu. I've watched them many times (especially the lower level ones, since that's where I am now), and recommended them to others. Thank you for sharing your progress.

  • thanks Linda, I look forward to watching your progress in this journey as well. =)

  • my very best compliments to you osaya!

  • cheers ben!

  • what's the background music?

  • I totally agree with Serraph8, many elementary mistakes, poor techniques and lack of feeling for actual action.

Try to increase level of interaction, decrease level of automatism and try focus on the techniques and hara.

  • good job, by the way, in my personal opinion students who are on KYU levels schould NOT wear hakamas :)

yesterday i Wroclaw, Poland was Daniel Brunner Shihan and the saminar was awesome.

I'm new to aikido, and this was my first seminar I attended, but I never saw a man like this before so open.

  • still many elementary mistakes and lots of unfinished techniques (means that if it were for real, you would be killed). My advice, move your hips sometimes, work a bit with your centre.

  • Good grading! Try and keep your heels together on suwari waza though and keep your guard up. :D Right I'm off training, we're grading the juniors today! What fun.

  • sweet video
