  • check out the work of manupupule at fine hawaiian art dot com

  • It's pretty silly the way some compare this guy to Rembrandt. He is no closer to Rembrandt than Grandma Moses is. Like other similar figurative painters of today, they all have one thing in common: doing bad paintings. Putting in the spooky aspect to these "Odd" narratives in no way improves the paintings as paintings. I cringe with embarrassment for the figurative camp when I see such things. Oh, and if you were contemplating suicide, this soundtrack may well send you over the edge.

  • if you like rembrandt as i do, you will love the work of hawaii artist chris campbell and herb kane

  • He is the master of painting, you are the best

  • An amazing explorer of the inner realms. The way he scumbles with sandpaper imparts a subtle blurring of dream and "reality."

  • @richardbrompton He is totally different than Rembrandt! Personally im a fan of Rembrandt so i have a little bias haha

  • @Sketchbookable agree

  • I don't think Rembrandt and Odd are comparable, they express different things in similar languages. This is Kitsch. Ugly and shocking they are, but beautifully shown. Is this not what Rembrandt did when he painted a meat carcass? When he beautifully painted ugly people and himself? He didn't idealize, but he wasn't a realist either. Odd and R both uplift the common and mundane. If Odd was begging for acceptance from the PM he wouldn't have cut all ties to them.
