"Taran and the Lost Safari" was Gordon Scott's second film as Tarzan. It was directed by H Bruce Humberstone in 1957 and also starred Betta St John as Diana Penrod, Yolande Dolan as Gamage Dean, and Robert Beatty as the scheeming hunter, Tusker Hawkins. This segment is an excerpt from the documentary, "The Many Faces of Tarzan" (1996).

  • who dare to say that it is the best movie ever?

  • Who made that claim on this page?

  • the natives looked scary in this one, but my man comes to save the day. i liked gordon scott as tarzan and he will be greatly missed.

  • Oha, the commenting voice to this trailer has me in stitches. "6 foot 3 inches of muscular manhood." Ow. And I'm wondering how often Jane has to do that "Eeeeh! Tarzan!" line. Looks like what's most interesting about this version might be all the wild life footage which looks interesting. (And depending on definition might include the muscular manhood of debated heighth.)

  • Hi pwgr2000,

I am a fan of Gordon Scott so I was not "attacking" him if that is why you are being derogatory. As he is quite obviously a natural mesomorph it is fair to assume the 6'3" claim is an exaggeration.

As Mahoney & GS are not photographed from the feet up we can not SEE the true height difference - only thing is GS is shorter.

I have ALL the GS Tarzan's and quite a few of his Italiam films.

Please watch the movies yourself to see what I mean.

  • Can you explain why Mahoney was only "more than an inch and a half" taller than Scott if Scott was under 6 foot as you originally claimed. Surely he would be 4 inches shorter than Mahoney. You also claim he was shorter than both Connery and Ross. However, he is only about an inch-and-a-half shorter than Mahoney, making him about six feet, two and-a-half inches, which is taller than both Connery and Ross.

Your comparisons seem a little faulty, and maybe even lacking a litle common sense.
