The Palestrina Choir of St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin sing Lord of all hopefulness with words by Jan Struther to the beautiful Irish tune Slane.

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever child-like, no cares could destroy,
Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.

Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,
Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,
Be there at our labours, and give us, we pray,
Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.

Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,
Your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace,
Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray,
Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.

Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,
Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,
Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.

  • @zemnasdarkness do you remember a boy named Jordan Muniz? He should be around the age of 13-ish?

  • Angelic voices, PRAISE GOD IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (September 18), I filled in at a local Lutheran Church. I played this for the opening hymn. It is #765 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

  • My friend is in that choir.

  • @dudedude123451345 Can i ask what it was like. Our son has been offered junior probationer. Did you enjoy it?

  • So so beautiful! Praise the Lord

  • 1200-year-old Irish tune... If there's any reason I can feel proud to be Irish these days, I'll pick this thanks :-)

  • This is probably the first hymns in an English language hymnal that says "Your" instead of "Thy" when addressing God. I don't know of any earlier ones that do.

  • a soul inspiring hymns indeed

  • I've only just been reminded of this myself tonight. Last time I heard it, I was at school!

    Lovely.
