This is a 35-minute documentary charting the many successes of a unique arts project "The Anglo Saxon World of Beowulf", supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The programme explores the huge impact of the education programme on schools in Southend and follows participants as they learn more about the Anglo Saxon artefacts unearthed at the burial site of "The Prittlewell Prince". It documents a series of arts-based workshops in which students were given the chance to write music and stories, to act, and to create Beowulf-inpired artwork which would form part of a beautiful manuscript.
The final section of the project was a spectacular theatre piece, involving professional actors and community members, performed live in Priory park Southend. The film introduces us to some of the actors and community members who took part and includes extended excerpts and dramatic interpretations of the show.
