This song should strike a chord with anyone of a certain age who lived through the wholesale destruction of our cities that took place in the 1960's under the guise of 'progress' and 'urban renewal'.
Buildings can be easily replaced, but not so the communities which were destroyed forever to make way for roads and soulless office buildings.

I was born in Glasgow. Me and my parents moved down to the south west of England when i was three, more casualties of Thatchers Britain. It is still my home and i still get excited like a kid at Christmas when I know i'm going back. 8 days from now i will be up there for the first time in almost 5 years.

Same. All my mother's family is from Glasgow and her father was involved in the mining industry and ended up in northumberland for work. Anyone who knows of the negative impact of thatcher's policies can realate to this song. If you want to understand why sone ppl feel there is no hope for them in this society listen to this son g
