I talk about using tapes and other audio storage formats for loading games into vintage computers.

Next I talk about the value of using the "Thumbs Up" and "Favourite" buttons to help promote channels and videos that you like.

  • It would probably be possible to reverse engineer a C64 or Atari tape decks to take the standard functions.

  • @TheEPROM9 Alsmost certainly, though it would take someone with half a clue about electronics... which isn't me :)

  • lol 16 mins in when Steve drinks his cappuccino and whines about the number of new subscribers now that he's an internet celebrity... how posh of him that he has everyone lol

  • @Paperclown That's a pretty poor interpretation of what this video is about, given that I'm actually trying to help the channels who're starting out or struggling to get noticed.

  • Thank's Mr Benway for the mention, got a few extra subs. =-)

  • Only one thumbs down on this video

  • These's always been a slowdown is new subscribers. I've been arround science April 2010 and have 41.

  • People used to find new channels through other channels subscriptions/subscribers and friends. Now that's not possible because the new channels have done away with those things. No user can view anothers subs/friends anymore. I honestly detest the new layout as it does nothing to improve usability or flow. Youtube has gone downhill the last 2 years and I can see a shift in content creators coming soon. There are thousands angry about the new setup, which will be forced starting march 1st.

  • I usually won't bother "liking" a video if it's very popular, but if I enjoyed it and the channel doesn't have much attention I will.

I'm sure my subscriber count has a lot to do with your shoutout in the early days. I'm nearly up to my 512 binary subs milestone. So thanks again :D

Another way for a small channel to get some attention is to make videos about more obscure but well-liked games. My Mercenary III videos for example seem to be the only "let's play" videos of that game on youtube.

  • The new YouTube FrontPage is your full subs list now which is good. But yeah, that is missing now the latest non sub videos.

  • @stevebenway Great video Steve, also noticed that since the new layout has been put into use the views and subscriptions have suffered on both my channel and nearly everyone else’s.

  • "Liking" a video is my way of giving the uploader "thanks" for the video.
