Michael Newdow lost the battle over the words "Under God" as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, reverses a 2002 rejection of the phrase in the Pledge of Allegiance.

He is as much a fool as a liar as the court ruled that since saying the pledge is voluntary, efforts by the plaintiffs to remove certain parts of it is an attempt to suppress the free speech of others. What is at issue is not saying the Pledge or affirming a belief in God. What is at issue is whether Roechild (Dr. Newdows anonymous client) can prevent other students, who have no such objection, from saying the Pledge, stated the court.

This video, however, is about the the words "Under God" become part of the Pledge. The person responsible is he Rev. George M. Docherty who succeeded Peter Marshall as the pastor of New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., which was the church President Lincoln attended.

Docherty delivered a sermon saying the pledge should acknowledge God in 1952 at the church which is just blocks from the White House.

On Feb. 7, 1954, he delivered it again after learning that President Dwight Eisenhower would be at the church. Eisenhower was very impressed with the sermon and the very next day a legislative initiative led in part by Michigan congressman Charles Oakman was underway and in record time the House and Senate passed the new language for the Pledge.

Eisenhower signed the bill on Flag Day, June 14, 1954.

"America the Beautiful" is played by the United States Marine Band.

The opening Pledge of Allegiance comes from the documentary movie "The War Comes to America" directed by Frank Capra.

  • Yeah, he's a fool for expecting secularism in the pledge of our nation. Oh, did I say OUR nation? It must not be MY nation, or the nation of other people that do not share the same religion as these christian scumbags. So united, christians can be. No spelling mistakes auto-correct, it's meant to be lower-cased.

  • Great video!! thanks for sharing!
