Just a tip, If you bake a Ambiant occlusion map your get the shadows depth that your painting in by hand. Use this AO map and add a screen colour down as your base, then your only have to add extras tones and details.

I tried that, and I didn't like the results. This map works pretty good when I render with regular lighting and SSS. Also, I like the stylized look that's coming out of the hand painted look. Thanks for the comment
