This is an experimental vid that I created for the AWA Master's 2007. I was playing with the idea of pixelating all the video, but ended up just doing certain characters. I think the end result turned out okay, even if it was a bit rushed. I did get some really great ideas going for a similar project from working on this.

And no, this is not a filter/plugin, each frame was hand traced in photoshop. This took about a month.

  • I am your big fan ZS, and I hold you in high regard. I'm also sure this took a long time and effort. Still, I just don't know... what the point was. What is it with pixelated graphics? It's neither aesthetic nor inspiring, just something we abandoned as soon as we could (I should know, my first CG experience was on ZX Spectrum in the early 80's.) Young people today feel some kind of attachment to it, but to me it's just something that should be left in the past. Sorry, this time I don't get it.

  • @SolariusScorch: Thanks for the comment...as you have said, there wasn't much purpose to this other than to try out this style :p It's for a much bigger project I'm doing, I just wanted to see if it will work. Sorry that you feel that way, I think pixelated graphics still have some merit today from a design standpoint. I think that the older games were much more epic because your mind filled in the gaps, and I want to portray the images my mind created while playing those games. Cheers!

  • @ZephyrStar No no, I completely agree. I remember that charm very well. :) The point is, the original clip (the footage) was obviously in better resolution and just pixelating it is in my opinion not enough.

What you could do though is mimicking Suberunker Studiosh's famous "The Wizard from Osaka", which goes much further in actually recreating that old game feel. With the LS cast, you could for example make a mock dating sim. That would be something! What do you think?

  • @SolariusScorch: yup absolutely can see doing something like that. The one thing I regret about this video is I did it under a deadline of about 2 months, so I literally ran out of time. That's why there are a couple of cheesy shots that are not pixelated. It's pretty blatantly just some random shots set to music :P

  • dude, if you converted a full anime series like that, id fucking PAY to watch it

  • It's uhh... sorta in the works :O
