The music pours out over the rocks
Washes away the ticking clock
Timeless tune of the natural way
The mountain rises up to pray

Words they fall like a tropical rain
The eagle's joy and the lion's pain
Dolphins dance and the elephant sings
Elk run wild and Hanuman brings
Me freedom...Dancin' in a waterfall


I had to compose a second verse
But I had no time to rehearse
So I made these words up on the spot
And wiggled myself right out of a knot

Just when I thought I had some leisure
Somebody asked me to be their teacher
They were so sincere I could not decline
I do not believe this knowledge is mine
Or yours...Dancin' in a waterfall


When it come time to write the third
I had a consult with the hummingbird
She taught me just to have more fun
'Cuz I already know that we're all one!

Just when I thought I'd had enough
Shiva came and he called my bluff
I knew quite soon I'd run out of time
The heart wins out over the mind
So easy...Dancin' in a waterfall


A fourth verse came while I was chillin'
I said OMIGOD I'm gonna sound like Dylan
I kept on writin' 'til the ink was spent
Got to thinkin' this song might pay the rent

Had a good laugh about that idea
Krishna knows t'ain't no Bhagavad Gita
Lyrics like water kept flowing forth
I began to dream 'bout a girl from the north
Country...Dancin' in a waterfall


I knew I had to stop on the fifth
Or I might get drunk on this waterfall riff
All meaning is lost in the rainbow spray
I'll be down on my knees to pray

I open my heart to an ancient song
Melody comes on clear and strong
Time to get back to the waterslide
And let the river guide
