Jaco Pastorius - Opus Pocus

From Jaco Pastorius (1976)

I was going to post some Live bootlegs, but I will get to that. For now I decided to post this studio cut from Jaco Pastorius' first solo cd. The track is called "Opus Pocus". Oh and the pictures, there aren't that many good pictures of Jaco around, but I just took the better ones and compiled them, hope you enjoy.

Whoever likes this should also watch this video to get a general impression of whats going on with Jaco's Band:

Information on Jaco's Death:

After sneaking onstage at a Carlos Santana concert September 11, 1987, he was ejected from the premises, and he made his way to the Midnight Bottle Club in Wilton Manors, Florida.[10] After reportedly kicking in a glass door after being refused entrance to the club, he was engaged in a violent confrontation with the club bouncer, Luc Havan. Pastorius was hospitalized for multiple facial fractures and damage to his right eye and right arm, and had sustained irreversible brain damage.[citation needed] He fell into a coma and was put on life support.

There were initially encouraging signs that he would come out of his coma and recover, but a massive brain hemorrhage a few days later pointed to brain death. His family decided on a majority vote to remove him from life support, even though his second wife Ingrid was against the decision.[citation needed] Pastorius died on September 21, 1987, aged 35, at Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. His heart continued to beat for three hours after the life support machine was disconnected.[citation needed]

In the wake of Pastorius' death, Havan, a karate expert, was charged with second degree murder, but later pled guilty to manslaughter, for which he served four months. Pastorius was buried at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in North Lauderdale.

  • The bassline change that comes in at 1:59 blows my mind every damn time...My joints get all loose, my head drops all the way forward, and I fall into an uncontrollable head sway for the remainder of the track... The moving power of real talent and feeling, being driven through the instruments... Unlike anything the mainstream media tries to force feed us in all forms of media...Death to pop music!

  • First heard this song on a jazz radio station and knew I had to have the album. It was one of those rainy nights just like it is outside at this moment. Guess the weather reminded me of this. Excellent post.
