DoubleDigitalDesk was a slow-but-working prototype implemented with Steve Freeman in 1992 that allowed two remote DigitalDesks to create a shared physical and virtual surface for interacting with paper. When someone puts down a piece of paper on one desk, it appears projected on the other desk. The remote user can then point to it or draw on it. The example shows how two people can play tick-tack-toe on a mixed reality physical and projected document.
