Our plan to backpack from Falls Meadow up to Sonora Pass via the East Carson River in the Eastern Sierras was foiled by heavy runoff in Murray Creek. We were unable to find a safe ford. This kept the trip below the 8000 foot snow line, because the high altitude part of the trip is past Murray Falls up to Sonora Pass. Important lesson: Safety! Sierra rivers and tributaries are running fast and full during this time of the year, and cannot be treated lightly. Thanks for sharing. My first backpacking trip in the sierras was through this area. We're planning a trip back to this area in august for hopefully a nice dip in the pools around Carson falls.
