I don't really care what genre you put this into, the band is pretty damn good. At least they're trying to do something different. You can only hear the exact same double bass blast beat so many times before you get tired of it, and this is a refreshing change.

I don't understand all the spite aimed at U.S. black metal, we have put out nothing but quality music since Von in 1990. Since then we have shaped our scene as we deemed fit, constantly molding it into something that is ours. If you don't like it fuck off. Hopefully more bands will follow Woe, Twilight, and Castevet who have taken the black metal sound and gone they're own way with it. Live in a Cave if you want to only listen to 2nd wave norwegian black metal.
