Osteoporosis or bone loss is of great concern to millions of people, especially women of menopausal age and beyond. It is often been said that a good calcium supplement can slow the loss of bone in people of this age group, but clinical studies over the past 15 years have repeatedly shown that calcium, when taken with key co-factor nutrients, can not only halt bone loss, but can even increase bone density over time. Calcium is a very difficult mineral for the body to absorb, especially as we age. In order for calcium to be absorbed at the cellular level, the digestive system of the body must be in an acidic state. This is the natural state of the healthy stomach. By taking antacids, either over the counter or by prescription, we destroy important stomach acids, making calcium absorption even more difficult. We have several testimonials from our clients who have used our calcium formulas containing the key trace elements necessary for absorption back to the bone. You can hear for yourself how effective these formulas have been in preserving bone density. In order for calcium to return to the bone and increase bone density, it must be combined with the key trace elements boron, manganese, copper, zinc and strontium. Doing so can increase calcium absorption by as much as 10 times! When you combine a calcium supplement with a Full Spectrum multi-vitamin/mineral formula the body is able to balance its many biochemical functions. A balanced internal chemistry is best able to assist the body in healing itself. We also discuss how not all supplements are the same. The market is filled with thousands of supplement brands, many of them are very effective. Sadly, however, many are not. Some things to look for are how the products are made. Are they manufactured in registered GMP facilities? GMP is the standard that the FDA has helped to set up to ensure that dietary supplements are being manufactured with the proper quality control measures. GMP facilities take many extra and costly steps to ensure the potency, integrity, and quality of the products they make. Many people are under the false impression that the FDA approves of dietary supplements, calling our offices and asking is such and such a product is FDA approved. The FDA does not approve of any dietary supplements. There are no supplements made by anyone that are FDA approved. The FDA has helped to set up the GMP standards and registers manufacturing facilities if they meet those standards. These facilities are then routinely inspected and the records reviewed. In order to keep the GMP registration, facilities must undergo regular inspections of all areas of their business. Here at The Institute we work only with GMP registered facilities. The other factor that can affect the absorption of nutrients is the delivery system. Capsules and liquids tend to provide the best way of taking supplements, especially for those over the age of 40 years. As we grow older, we tend to have greater difficulty to break down and to absorb nutrients to the acid/alkaline balance of our digestive system. Capsules and liquids tend to break down faster and more completely, allowing for greater absorption into the bloodstream and hence to the cellular level of the body.
