@MegaWayneD Not necessarily. Some cars, like most Jags, simply couldn't be made to use 95 octane unleaded. They needed a full, fat 98 octane, i.e. Super Unleaded or 4-Star.
Furthermore, the lead also acted as a valve/valve seat lubricant. On some cars, e.g. the Volvo 140 Series/164, the valve seats had to be machined out and hardened inserts put it, otherwise the wear would be about three times the going rate.
Yes, it really was THAT complicated! If in doubt, ask your dealer or owners club.
