Sydney needs a metro system. We are the third largest city in the developed world (behind Houston and Dallas) not to have one. It's embarrassing that we still need people to "wave on the trains" at the stations.

Cityrail's train frequencies are about once every 15 minutes on average IIRC and once every 30 minutes on weekends.Cities with metro systems like Hong Kong, Singapore,London, etc are on average once every 4-6 minutes off-peak and once every 2-3 minutes on-peak.It's not the population.A city of 4.5 million is pretty small to world standards.It is the planning and infrastructure.It's embarassing that we still need whistles for doors and train drivers when everything in other cities are automated
