In this segment captured from his KGO radio show, Dr. Bill Wattenburg gives an easy to understand explanation which debunks common myths spread around by anti-nuclear nuts. The KGO website: http://www.kgoam810.com/
I'm rather perplexed by his statement that you can put a piece of fuel rod in your pocket without risking harm.
If that's the case, why do they feel the need to enclose the spent fuel in concrete, deep below in geographically stable ground not to be touched for the next 10.000 years or so?
The host is too dismissive. Its true that the alpha radiation released during 235 fission is not harmful in low doses, unless ingested, however the fission process does not end at that point. The beta decay of the resulting elements can pose an external danger to humans. The main danger is with the long term storage of the uranium and other byproducts. If they made it into our water supply that could be a significant problem. The final issues is when things happen to operational plants like in japan
@UkraineTV Amen. It's funny how the only people they every put on the phone with dickheads like Wattenburg are people without the intellect to knock his ass down.

@UkraineTV There was no containment center around Chernobyl. That would would have changed everything for the plus side.

@jjobie Yea that's it, it's a conspiracy. It's actually because Dr. Wattenburg is correct.
