jack freaking white brought willie to the ears of dudes who would never have bothered to listen to willie five up jack!!!!!!!

@allthingsblues Well I know Blind Willie Mctell, Blind Blake, Blind WillieJohnson, Blind boy Fuller, among others, were all blind. My guess as to why there are so many blind blues musicians is that they had to make a living somehow and music was the only plausible way to earn an income.

i wonder how many ''blind'' bluesmen were really blind?...al

This is my first time listening to Blind Willie Mctell. I only heard his name mentioned by Bob Dylan and Jack White and I've gotta say that it's few times when tears come to my eyes from a song. This man is fantastic and this song is beautiful.

@49mrjd jack white???!!! I think people had championed willie long before jack white .

The original chorus goes, Pal o' mine, I hope you are fine - does Uncle Sam have work for you to do?? You're forever in my heart sweet pal o' mine.

This song was written in 1942. Music by Tom Walker and Lyrics by Florence Acklam, Racine WI. Florence was my Aunt. The song was copywrited, but never published in sheet music. I'd like to know the story behind how Blind Willie found this song. It's played here just a little bit slower than it was supposed to be played.
