Log saw working display, "Field Days of the Past" Sept. 2009, outside Richmond Virginia. Saw was most likely from the 1920's, before the actual chain saws were invented. The saw was primarily used to "buck" a log, i.e. cut it into to desired lengths, such as chunks for fire wood, etc. There was also an attachment available at the time to "fell" the tree, i.e. cut it down, which mounted the blade on it's side and ran it horizontally. Owner's guess as to why they called it a "DRAG" saw, was simple, you could DRAG it around from log to log, the wheels made it easy to move. I'd like to thank Paul who sold this mechanical wonder to me. A special thanks to my good friend Roger the "Genius", who helped a lot with getting the engine started and running. Also to my good buddy "Yellow Dog" Dave who drove 1500 miles or so to go pick the saw up, and to push me to have it running perfect for the show.
Fascinating
