This one is a request from more than one person so I'm happy to bring it to you. As I said in the video I personally don't see much point of replacing just the CV boots anymore as it just makes more sense to replace the axle, that's just how I feel however. If you do want to replace the boots I hope this video will help.

  • I did this to my 1989 GTI this summer from your video! Im 17 and it took me a couple hours. I learned so much in this experience and the GTI is still rolling :) awesome video feels good to learn something new!

  • @MidnightClubGamR I love comments like this. I'm glad my video was able to help you, thanks for the comment.

  • Hey Erik,

Excellent video, very informational and easy to follow.

Is it the same procedure for 02 Passat. I tried to do this on my drivers side axle, cv boot replacement, but it didn't work as well. I managed to get all the bearings our and wasn't able to put it back together, which meant a new axle anyway.

Thanks for the video again man,

  • @haveri5 Honestly I don't know as I'm not familiar with that model however you might ask over at the ETCG forum on my website as there may be someone there that's done this on that model.

  • I wish your shop was near Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Good video. Thank you.

  • @computermech Yea me too, you guys have health care I can afford.

  • Fuck yes. Subscribed. GF recently got herself a used 94 Nissan Primera in almost rust free condition, with a driver side ripped CV boot(weird thing is the drive axle is maybe 2 months old). This knowledge you bestowed upon me will be of great help!

  • Im replacing the boots on my atv. Is it the same as on a a four wheeler?

  • I have my manual transmission out of my 97 civic ex (had to change out the engine) and I cant get the drivers side inner joint to come out of the transmission. I was going to change both axles anyway so I kinda destroyed the boot and took the axle apart. I was wondering what else I could try to get that piece out of the trans. Tryed to pry it out, got nowhere. Also if all else fails could I just buy a new cv axle and remove that end on the new one and put it together with the existing end?

  • just saved a lot of money by doing this myself. had fun with a friend and did something useful that day. youre awesome

  • u r very helpful i am rebuilding my d16z6 and when i was pulling it out and my inner joint well the cup fell off and i had no idea they had two seperate greases thnk for tht and also this is my first car engine rebuild so im learning as i go im pretty good and most mechanical stuf but alot of ur videos have helped me alot and i could use some help from someone like u to finish up the job id really like to hear my car run again really soon i miss it il deff post a video and pics of it asap

  • Thank you very much for doing this. You have saved me from taking my car down to a shop a paying for something I could do on my own. Your videos are very clear and understanding. Keep doing what you do. I appreciate it. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Awesome!!!!!!!

  • impressive video and clarity, and good humor thanks

  • Awesome video!, I'm gona watch your other videos too now

  • I just learned that the inner cv boot is torn on both sides of my 2007 Avalon. Im broke as hell and wanted to know how long before i have to get it fixed, in your opinion.

  • I have a Fiat Uno (Crap) the inner joint is lubed by the gearbox so if the boot goes the gearbox runs empty. In South Africa they don't sell complete axles. Still living in the past.
