Just telling you all a story from my days in a Christian high school when I was a teenager and how my intellect got subverted in regards to creationism. I relate this back to cults.

  • You can call creationism a theory if you want to. The word 'theory' just means a collection of statements that are subject to scientific scrutiny. Most theories are falsifiable, and only an insignificantly tiny number of them qualify as good scientific theories.

  • Every flavor of creationism in my mind is firmly theological in nature so I didn't want to call any of it a theory.

  • evangelical Christian high school? oi vey. Creation in 6 days? That's what they believe? oh no. That's impossible!

You make a good point about a group dynamic. I'm reading dianetics with the tv on, and this stuff doesn't make sense. In the introduction, I think Hubbard asserts he created a pyramid scheme. To quote; "The plan of the book might be represented as a cone which starts with simplicity and

    descends into wider application."

  • Dawkins has pointed out that it's time that theological theories were placed under the same sort of scrutiny as any scientific theory, instead of having some sort of special status that cannot be challenged.

  • I like youre take on the group mentality. Theyre probably the strongest mind gripping/raping Cult thats every existed. It works on so many levels. Love bombing etc

  • You gotta see "What Would Jesus Buy"--from the Church of Stop Shopping.

I love that guy:-) And I didn't snicker ones....

  • Not really. The music was essentially 80s power ballads about Jesus.

  • Was the music good? [snicker, snicker]
